Skito pads are CUSTOM, and can be built in just about any shape for just about any saddle. You can choose a stock standard english, dressage, endurance, short and long western in lots of colors and beautiful tapestry fabrics, or send a drawing of your saddle outline. Call for more information.
Our pads are used as the correction tool for EQUI Mapping Saddle Fit Evaluation using pressure mapping. By getting an accurate static and dynamic reading, we can build you the right combination of shims to correct the disparity of the tree against the back. Why Skito pads? Because they offer the very best in materials and shim offerings, plus the ability to open the entire pocket to customize your fit.
SKITO pads come in two versions: Insert pad and Inter pad.
The Insert Pad is a complete full saddle pad all by itself. No other pads are needed. Insert Pads can be used "as is" without shims if your fit is correct. Insert pads come in a large variety of beautiful tapestry prints, solids and DRYBACK, 3M's "Nomad" heat dispursing soft woven flooring material that is designed to allow heat and persperation to wick through the foam and out the top rather than getting trapped inside the pad. Plus three choices of undersides that lay against the horse: 100% wool fleece, 80/20 wool and poly fleece, and a wool blend quilted.
The Interpad is used under the saddle but on top of a light to medium pad for correction of fit. It is an abbreviated envelope only pad, and is covered either in spandex or cotton quilted. Interpads are covered in spandex or quilted cotton.
Both have the same patented "envelope" on either side of the spine with a velcro opening to get to the foam insert "guts" of the pad, and both have the the ability to "shim" the inside according to need.
Skito Equalizer saddle pads can be built in three thicknesses and two degrees of firmness of foam. The standard is 3/4" thick. In addition, wear leathers (Nylon Cordura) and rigging straps are standard. You can also add trail pockets and non slip strips for added security.
Use and Care
*Always be certain the back of the horse and the surfaces of the pad are free of dirt and debris. Tack up. Allow the Equalizer® pad to warm up for three to five minutes or longer in cold weather, before snugging the girth. Check the girth after warming up the horse prior to starting any activity. The saddle and horse will settle into the Equalizer® foam as it initially warms. Store the Equalizer pad over a bar or separate from the saddle to enhance drying. Always lay your pad right side up, not upside down.
Cleaning the Pad
Is a matter of removing the foams first, and machine or hand laundering the cover in warm water with a mild detergent or blanket cleaning solution, NO BLEACH, and double rinse. Remember, the underside fabrics are real wool, so clean them accordingly. Lay the cover right side up over a bar, fence, and out of the sun to air dry. The foam inserts should be rinsed in a cup of vinegar to 3 gallons of water solution to remove body salts absorbed from the horse’s sweat. Squeeze, DO NOT WRING the moisture from the foam inserts. Place the foams on a flat surface to air dry.
Shipping: most saddle pads will ship within the U.S. for approx. $16.00 and require a signature. Your pad will be shipped directly from Skito.
Replacement parts: you can order new or different foam for your Skito pad. You'll need the product number that is stamped on each piece of foam, including shims as well as "firm" or "standard". Each pair of foam inserts is $65, and shims are priced according to what type. You can also order a new or different cover for your pad !! This way you can have two different looks!!
