The “Bella” Hybrid English Trail Endurance

The Bella is a great model for those transitioning from a traditional flat seated English looking for a more secure ride but holding to the traditional exposed leathers (as opposed to a fender model). The Bella can be built with a deep trail narrow twist suspended seat, or the flatter lower profile suspended seat. Standard features are a roll over 4’ cantle, front knee rolls, an English flap, biothane leathers with 3 position adjustment as well as length adjustment, English two billet center fire rigging, and lots of trail hardware for carrying your gear, a smooth or suede seat and knee roll. The Bella weighs 17 lbs and is all leather with a completely open gullet and channel from front to back, and is available on all of the Steele Saddle Tree fits from drafts to Paso Finos, gaited, mules and donkeys. Available in seat sizes 14-18. Base price $2289.00 with kneerolls.

Standard are 1′” or 1-1/4″ Biothane adjustable position continuous buckle at the bottom with a leather cuff over the buckle (no buckle under your thigh). Biothane is very flat and close feeling. You choose your biothane leathers width based on the stirrups you choose.

english 2 billet (1″ wide billets) adjustable center fire rigging out of biothane for a flat close contact feel. 1 1/2″ billets are available as an upgrade along with the optional upgrade girth that has larger buckles. Leather billets available as an upgrade. This model does not have a rear D housing for western rigging however a person could switch to western latigo billets using the two rings under the flap.

We understand that rigging is a part of saddle fit. Most treed saddles use fixed position rigging. Having adjustable rigging allows you to customize the fit to each animal and aids in keeping your saddle in the correct position. For the Bella English Endurance we offer English two billet (a billet to the front and rear under the jocky, slides through a flat rectangle leather guide and adjusts right at your girth). Billets are available in standard 1″ or 1 1/2″ which requres a girth with wider buckles (see accessories). If adjustable rigging is not something you desire, you can choose stationary center fire, still a better choice than the very forward one ring version that often leads to saddles moving and shifting.

X WIDE Buckle with Neoprene Girth
All stainless, elastic on both ends, choose your size. Most DD saddles use 26, 28, 30″

standard nylon endurance stirrups on 1 1/4″ biothane leathers. 1″ leathers do not come with stirrups as there are so many to choose from and stirrups are a personal thing for most english riders. We prefer the Reflex with a toe cage for safety reasons.

If you are a trail rider, additional hardware can be added such as rings up front and back.

Descreet small stainless hardware includes four rings in the rear and breast collar rings. You can upgrade to the Jerimiah Wyatt Horseshoe hardware.

Some folks want footmans loops, a crupper ring, mule britchen rings, and/or extra rings for trail gear. For a small upcharge we can add additional hardware.

Any and all of the Steele Saddle Tree Company tree fits for horses and mules from Paso Fino’s to drafts to Mammoth Donkeys to Welch Cobs and all the gaited breeds, Arabs and everything in between. We don’t build saddles by the breed, we build saddles by the fit! We won’t build your gaited saddle necessarily on a “gaited tree”. Nor will be necessarily build a mule saddle on a “mule tree”. We build saddles on trees that fit.

Seat Choices

Smooth or suede leather, black, dark brown and light brown

Suspended Trail Seat: a deeper seat, the narrowest twist, with a soft rise in front and pocket to sit in

Suspended Flat Seat: the rise is a full 1″ lower where it connects to the pommel or swell. The Flat seat also gives a slightly wider sitting area for those riders needing a bit more width. The Flat seat with a Cheyenne roll cantle offers the ultimate “more” sit area feel.

Seat Size
14-18 (additional upcharge for 14 and 18)

Saddle Color

From left to right: Black, Brown, Dark Chestnut, Light Chestnut, Golden, Walnut, Dark Oil Brown

Standard are the nylon endurance with 1 1/4″ biothane leathers. Should you choose 1″ width your saddle will not come with stirrups as there are hundreds of english iron choices. We prefer the Reflex stirrups with toe cages for safety reasons as this is a trail saddle.

Skirt Style

The Bella English Endurance TEK is built with a short single skirt with an open butterfly rear for full spinal clearance and protection. The skirt leather comes just barely beyond the bar of the tree. For example a seat size 16 will have a skirt length of approx. 25″ but the tree is what is important for weight bearing purposes.

Additionally, we offer the following upgrades:

Sweat Flap
Two-tone colors on the saddle
Double Diamond Matching Tack
Matching Bucking Rolls

Return Policy

Unless the saddle maker or myself are in error, your signed returned email “accepted as written” is your commitment to your saddle and there is no return policy. We strive to insure that your saddle is built on a tree that will fit your animal and your designs are specific to your style choice.

We are happy to assist you in selling your saddle by posting it on our website under ‘saddles in stock for sale” should your animal unfortunately pass over the rainbow, is injured, or other unforeseen circumstances. As your animal changes we are happy to assist you in learning the art of “reading your fit” whether it be for a changing growing animal or a new or different animal. We choose trees with changes in mind and they are very generous to allow for thicker and/or shimmed saddle pads should that be necessary. Keep in mind however that a larger wider animal may not fit into a saddle built for a narrow smaller animal. Our together time leading up to your final order includes much needed information so as to choose a tree based on the measurements static and movement statically. We have a very high rate of success helping our customers.
