Double Diamond Saddlery is a small but busy custom saddle shop since 2005. We offer all original designs, and build custom saddles that are leather technical, lightweight, close contact pared down for endurance, western trail, and western working ranch. We are also professional saddle fitters, and understand that there is no possibility that two trees can fit all equines without extreme damage to the animal, and the relationship between the rider and the animal. Therefore, we offer our professional fitting expertise and dozens of different tree fits by Steele Tree Company. We build for equines of all sorts, with an emphasis on the hard and unserviced breeds such as the drafts, the gaited animals and long ears, many of which are sold saddles “on a gaited or mule tree”. We do not build by gullet width only. We built on what fits well.
As far as who builds our saddles, we have a team of three brothers in Kentucky who build one by one, hand cut, hand built, from the tree up. We are not a production facility. The craftsmanship is unsurpassed, with an emphasis on close contact, pared down, light weight, technical, custom and beautiful with an attention to detail. We do not rush, we build for quality.
We use all American tanned leathers and always stainless hardware. Our seats are nothing short of amazing being built on our incredible suspended ground seats. A suspended ground seat is unlike all other seats that are hard with a little foam or gel on top. Never bouncy, it’s a seat that takes time to build but offers day long comfort and a narrow twist allowing riders relief from hip, lower back, knee and ankle torque all day long. We also build traditional padded and hard seats as well. You design it, we build it.
To have a successful relationship with our customers, we strive to meet all your custom and fit needs. However, since we are a custom shop, custom takes time. We do not stock inventory saddles as each one is different looking, and on a specific tree. Our customers seek us out for all the reasons mentioned, and appreciate these facts and are willing to wait patiently. We cannot always give you an exact date, but a close date, and those dates vary even still based on a hide not being tanned, a change in your order, glue or oils not behaving due to weather. If you have an appreciation for hand built quality saddles that fit you and your animals well, and are willing to be patient, then we can develop a relationship that starts with your ideas, we put them in to reality, and finally we teach you about fit after your saddle arrives.
All things good are worth waiting for. We look forward to working with you and your equines.
