For horses and mules/donkeys, this is a contoured topline or straight all wool felt saddle pad. Offered in close contact ½" to 1” thickness with three quality levels of felt. Unlike most felt pads that close over the spine, the Double Diamond Felt pad is designed to have a completely open channel front to rear to keep riders off the spine, an optional cut back rear and/or front for exposed spines, sore rear backs or high withers, and top quality all leather wear- leathers. You can order this pad in various lengths and drops as well. This pad is built with a full-length shim pocket on the topside for adding shims for balancing, helping the downhill animal, helping those exposed spines and roach backs, asymmetry, using your pad for smaller to larger animals, supporting the dippy back, and more. As fitters we specialize in helping those hard to fit and/or growing changing backs ride out of pain! Colors are available by adding a durable thin topside fabric too. This is a thin yet rugged pad that can be used with, or without shims. There are many shapes to choose from including an Endurance drop rigging shape, round Western, and square Western. We typically begin with a 1/2" thick pad, and 1/2" felt insert in the pocket. These pads can be used with an empty pocket for a very close contact pad, and be shimmed as needed, or, add the additional 1/2" into the pocket if you have a smaller animal, riding a long rigorous riding in the mountains for example.
